Rain off of front deck

Spring is here for 2022 along with rainy and stormy days

When we think of Spring we think of blooming flowers and budding trees. But spring isn't always a pleasant season. Spring can bring a variety of hazards to our front doors.

In the Midwest we need to be prepared for temperature swings, stormy weather, lighting, tornadoes and flooding. Days can start our with sunshine and warm weather and change into dark skies, rain and high winds by afternoon.

Are you prepared, have your emergency plans in place.  Know what to do and where to go if a storm creeps up on you. Make sure your loved ones know the plan.

After the Storm

Fallen tree on house

Is it a tornado or high winds, the damage it causes can still be catastrophic. During severe wind storms in Northeastern Oklahoma there was a clear path of destruction.

Full tree canopies can act as a sail in the wind.  When wind speeds are excessive, storms can cause entire trees to split and even uproot. Storm winds can bring trees down causing damage to the interior of your home.

SERVPRO of Bartlesville/Miami can be there to assess and mitigate any water damage in your home. Whether it's caused by storm floods, broken pipes, sewage backups, malfunctioning appliances or an overflowing toilet, our team of Certified professionals will extract the water and dry out your property fast.

SERVPRO equipment in Warehouse ready for any Storm.

It is in the middle of Summer and we have wildfires from extreme drought and heat happening on the West coast and Flooding in the Midwest and East Coast here in the US.

Towns are being totally burned to ashes leaving many with no homes or business's to come back to.

We are in the middle of hurricane season and had one hit the New England area.  The last hurricane to hit that region is 30 years ago.  This is causing wind and flood damage for many New England areas.  The Mid West is having it's share of heat and rain also.

I am asking what is going on?  We just had our crazy freeze storm earlier this year.

Storms come anytime of the year and cause extreme damage in its path.

SERVPRO of Bartlesville/Miami is asking you to be ready for any Storm that may come our way.

HOW MANY STORMS CAN YOU NAME?

Mother nature can give us a beautiful calm day and within minutes a storm that produces wind and rain damage to many homeowners. Each season brings its own weather hazards.

Winter gives us cold temperatures with Snow and Ice. Frozen water pipes and fireplaces can cause damage in homes or businesses fast.

With Spring we get Rain and sometimes more Rain which brings the outside rivers in our homes fast called floods.

Summer is HOT and can produce many forest fires that cause many fires and smoke damages throughout communities.

Fall gives us Hurricane season and Tornadoes.  We do have preparation for hurricanes which can save lives and homes but Tornadoes come with very little warning and gives us fast devastation.

Storms happen each season and bring many challenges that SERVPRO is Ready for at all times.

BE SAFE and READY EVERY SEASON

Snow in Oklahoma 2021

3/3/2021 (Permalink)

Almost a foot of snow in SERVPRO owners front yard

Let it Snow and did it ever in Oklahoma.  Most of the Midwest had been enjoying milder temperatures during the winter until mid February 2021.  Valentines day was below freezing and the temperatures stayed there for more than 10 days.

The cold temperatures allowed for pipes to freeze all over Oklahoma causing homeowners and businesses without water or electricity in below freezing temperatures outside.  Temperatures began to warm up and so did the pipes causing major water damages throughout Oklahoma.

Oklahoma is not use to having multiple freeze day's and the amount of snow that was falling.

SERVPRO of Bartlesville/Miami was ready to help and has not stopped.

Pawhuska, OK the land of the Pioneer Woman was not as lucky.  The whole town lost electricity in below freezing temperatures.  This Storm was one of the earliest Ice Storms to hit Oklahoma.

How to Stay Safe in a Severe Storm

8/3/2020 (Permalink)

Driving by Adams Lake and seeing it Flood.

Weather can go from being Calm to Severe instantly for most of us.  Are You Ready?

Where you and your family shelter during a storm is a crucial factor in staying safe. Ideally your home already has at least one location to shelter at, so it's time to focus on safeguarding your family while it's in full force. The safest place to be is indoors but if you are outdoors during a severe storm, AVOID exterior walls and get to shelter as soon as it is safe to do so.

Other simple things you can do in a storm situation are:

  • Stay clear of windows, doors and openings such as fireplaces.
  • Take shelter in your designated room, a bathroom or basement is recommended and protect your head with a cushion or mattress.  If possible, crouch beneath heavy furniture.
  • Continue to tune in to local weather broadcasts for updates and advice.

SERVPRO of Bartlesville/Miami professionals are committed to providing water cleanup and restoration services, as well as top-quality professional cleaning services for your entire home.

Emergency preparedness

Before a TORNADO is on its way you should be prepared.  Build an emergency kit and make a family communications plan. Purchase a NOAA weather radio. In any emergency, always listen to the instructions given by local emergency officials.

  • Be alert to changing weather conditions
  • Look for approaching storms
  • Look for the following danger signs:

               Dark, often greenish sky

               Large hail

               A large, dark. low-lying cloud

Loud roar, similar to a freight train

If you see approaching storms or any of the danger signs be prepared and take shelter immediately.

  • In a public building go to the designated shelter area.
  • If there is no basement, go to the center of an interior room such as a bathroom or closet on the lowest level away from corners, windows, doors and outside walls.

if caught in the open, lie flat in a nearby ditch or depression and cover your head with your hands to protect yourself from flying debris. Flying debris from tornadoes causes the most fatalities and injuries.

Be safe and remember,                        SERVPRO of Bartlesville/Miami                     is ready to help with the water mitigation after the storm. 918 766-0220.

Northeast Oklahoma Flood 2019

8/8/2019 (Permalink)

Adams Lake Soccer Fields Under Water

Rain, Rain and more Rain!!!  Spring 2019 was a rainy time in Northeast Oklahoma and surrounding areas.  Water starting rising fast as the rivers started to fill.  Washington County Emergency management had to keep a steady flow with the dams at Copan and Hulah Lake.

Low areas in Bartlesville around Silver Lake Road and Adams Road caused our Soccer Fields to be under water for more than a month.  All we could do was wait for the water to recede before any clean up could start.

Roads to parts of NE Oklahoma were closed for many days, which made getting to any water damage difficult to impossible.

SERVPRO of Bartlesville/Miami strived to answer each emergency call.  To do this day, we continue to work on properties affected by the flood damage.
