Emergency preparedness

Before a TORNADO is on its way you should be prepared.  Build an emergency kit and make a family communications plan. Purchase a NOAA weather radio. In any emergency, always listen to the instructions given by local emergency officials.

  • Be alert to changing weather conditions
  • Look for approaching storms
  • Look for the following danger signs:

               Dark, often greenish sky

               Large hail

               A large, dark. low-lying cloud

Loud roar, similar to a freight train

If you see approaching storms or any of the danger signs be prepared and take shelter immediately.

  • In a public building go to the designated shelter area.
  • If there is no basement, go to the center of an interior room such as a bathroom or closet on the lowest level away from corners, windows, doors and outside walls.

if caught in the open, lie flat in a nearby ditch or depression and cover your head with your hands to protect yourself from flying debris. Flying debris from tornadoes causes the most fatalities and injuries.

Be safe and remember,                        SERVPRO of Bartlesville/Miami                     is ready to help with the water mitigation after the storm. 918 766-0220.
